Home-School – Do you qualify for a free government funded laptop?
So far over 800,000 laptops have been delivered as part of the governments effort to enable students to learn from home and learn remotely during the current crisis whilst schools are closed. Do you qualify for help?
Devices are being made available to;
Disadvantaged students from year 3 to 11 who have had their schooling and face to face education disrupted
Disadvantaged children in any year group who have been advised to shield because they or anyone that they live with are clinically or extremely vulnerable
Disadvantaged sixth formers or college students who have had their education interrupted
According to the latest statistics, almost 2 million children in the united kingdom do not have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet computer at home. The calculations and eligibility are based on the childs entitlement to free school meals.
As of January 2020, 1.4 million children were eligible for free school meals (17.4%, just over one in six), and this number has probably increased significantly since then. Applications are done via the childs school must place orders though the governments get help with technology scheme.
